About 200 Anglican Women’s Fellowship delegates will descent on the Diocese of Pretoria from most of the 29 Dioceses of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa to attend the Provincial Conference and celebrate their 50th Anniversary during the 19 – 23 October 2016 at the Alpha Conference Centre, Broederstroom.

The President of the hosting Diocese of Pretoria, Mme Peggy Kambule, reported to the Diocesan Standing Committee that they were excited about the forthcoming event and that they were ready to warmly receive their expected guests. “We are looking forward to showering all the delegates with the famous Pretoria hospitality. We are planning a conference with celebrations, worships and praises which everybody will remember for a very long time!” said Mme Peggy.

The conference will open with a welcome service and candle lighting ceremony led by the Bishop of Pretoria, the Rt Revd Allan Kannemeyer on Wednesday the 19 October 2016 at 17.00 at St Alban’s Cathedral, Francis Baard Street, Pretoria. The Rt Revd Daniel Kgomosotho, Bishop of Mpumalanga, will address the conference on “Let’s Talk” on Thursday at 17.00 at Alpha Conference Centre.  The keynote address will be delivered on Friday at 15.00 at Alpha Conference Centre by the Most Revd Dr Thabo Makgoba, the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa. Delegates will be sent off with a fitting mammoth dinner on Saturday which they will cherish with relish.


Bernard Mizeki Men’s Guild (BMMG)

The BMMG has been active in the past quarter with activities which included running a Winter Soup Kitchen by the BMMG of St Alban’s Cathedral Church which benefitted about 120 people living on the streets of the City; attending the Guilders’ Conference in Botswana in July 2016; undertaking monthly hospital visits at Mamelodi Day Hospital; admitting a new member at St Paul in Saulsville; the Executive Committee visiting the Parishes of St Saviour and St Timothy, The Reeds in July and August 2016 respectively; and conducting training and development of prospective members at St Alban’s Cathedral.

The Diocesan Executive Committee attended the Provincial Council meeting in the Diocese of Mbashe, Eastern Cape in September 2016. The BMMG Imbizo which was scheduled for July 2016 has been postponed to a date still to be announced.

The Executive of BMMG was previously advised by DSC to look at their constitution with particular attention to the difference between the Diocesan Constitution and the Provincial Constitution with regard to Associates.  The Executive Committee together with The Very Revd Palo Thabane are visiting parishes where there are tensions to continue with reconciliation work amongst BMMG members and their Associates.

Mothers’ Union (M U)

The M. U. proudly celebrated Mary Sumner Day at St Augustine Church in Garankuwa. The service also commemorated the 140th anniversary of the international M. U. and 110 years of the Diocesan MU. All the people who were instrumental in the compilation of the history of the M. U. in Pretoria were also commended at this service.

The M. U. will be sending delegates to the Anglicans Ablaze Conference to be in Cape Town from 5 to 8 October 2016. Other activities include hosting Clergy Family Prayer Day on the 20 October 2016 and commemorating International HIV/AIDS Day on the 3 December 2016.

Members of the M. U. continue to touch the lives of others in their communities offering physical and spiritual support, visiting the sick and comforting bereaved families throughout the Diocese.

Anglican Women’s Fellowship (AWF)

The AWF celebrated the Mary and Martha Day at St Bernard the Martyr in Atteridgeville in July 2016. The event was a huge success. The AWF Executive Committee also attended the Mary Sumner Day in Garankuwa in solidarity with the M. U.

The Diocesan AWF will be hosting the Provincial AWF conference and the 50th Anniversary Celebrations at the Alpha Centre, Broederstroom in the St Jude Parish and Madibeng Archdeaconry area from the 19 to 23 October 2016. The opening service of the conference by Bishop Allan Kannemeyer will be at St Alban’s Cathedral on the 19 October 2016 at 17.00.

The AWF will participate in the Clergy Family Prayer Day jointly with the M. U.

St Lawrence Guild

The Guild celebrated the birth of their Patron Saint with a series of services during the month of August. In Pretoria East and Rustenburg, they celebrated on the 13 and 14 August 2016 respectively. The Diocesan Festival was celebrated at St Alban’s Cathedral on the 27 August 2016 where the new Diocesan Executive Committee was elected.

The new Diocesan Executive Committee comprises Phenyo Mashiane, Chairperson; Tumisho Mohlahlane, Deputy Chairperson; Itumeleng Kolwane, Secretary; Lethabo Katane, Treasurer; Keletso Tshoane, PRO; Alex Nyokong, Phemelo Mogalwe, Itumeleng Mabuse and Ivy Mulaudzi are Additional Members.

The Committee urgently need the support of all parishes, especially the clergy, to be able to do their work to “serve in the church of God”.

Pretoria Anglican Choirs Fellowship (PACF)

The PACF were involved in activities in the past quarter which included attending the Patronal Festival of the St Peter, Tlounane in Magaliesberg Archdeaconry on the 03 July 2016 as an outreach project; being represented at the St Peter, Garankuwa 50th Anniversary Celebration also on the 03 July 2016; holding an Executive Committee meeting on the 17 July 2016 at St Bede, Soshanguve and a General Council meeting on the 06 August 2016 at the church of the  Holy Cross, Soshanguve; undertaking an outreach visit to and holding an  Executive Committee meeting at St Stephen, Mogwase on the 21 August 2016; and being represented at the Western Region, Rustenburg Family Day on 28 August 2016.

They following activities will take place in the next quarter:

Diocesan Music Festival at St Andrews, Tlhabane on the 08 October 2016; the PACF celebration of All Saints/All Souls Day at All Saints Church, Mamelodi East on 06 November 2016; the PACF General Council and Budget Meeting will take place there after the service; and the Provincial Music Festival will take place in Durban hosted by Hammersdale on the 03 December 2016.
