My dear Brothers and Sisters
At this time we read and reflect on the High Priestly Prayer of Jesus for his followers. It is so assuring to know that Jesus prayed and continues to intercede for us.
Andrew Nel, a priest of our Diocese, has sadly lost his battle with cancer and passed away yesterday morning. Andrew was only instituted as Rector of Trinity Lynnwood two weeks ago. For just more than two years he has fought a courageous battle to overcome his illness. He was blessed with a ‘can do’ attitude and refused to allow his illness to get the better of him. At one stage I had to force him to take sick leave, then a sabbatical, just so that he could have the time and space to deal with the severe effects which his illness, the prolonged treatment, and its side effects had on him. This he acceded to with great reluctance. His reluctance stemmed from his deep sense of vocation and his need to serve and be useful.
We are not able to release information about his funeral at this time.
Please pray for Olga, his wife, Aiden and Hellen their children, and the rest of the family. Also for the holy faithful people of Trinity, Lynnwood, St Annes, Equistria and St Agnes Bopape where Andrew ministered before starting at Lynnwood in January this year.
May his soul rest in peace and rise in glory
To God we commend him
Peace be with you
